Detailed Submission Instructions
Please make sure that your paper satisfies all of the following requirements before being submitted. Submissions not adhering to these submission guidelines will be rejected by the submission system.
- Full paper submissions must be original material that has not been previously published in another conference or journal, nor is it currently under review by another conference or journal. It is acceptable to submit material presented previously at a workshop without copyrighted proceedings.
- For brief announcements, the titles should include the words “Brief Announcement”. All rejected regular papers will automatically be considered for brief announcements. If the authors would not like their rejected regular paper considered as a brief announcement, then the title should include the text “full paper only”.
- Submissions must use the final ACM “sigconf” format from https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template. This is a single-spaced double-column format for 8.5×11-inch paper, with a 9-point font size.
- Regular papers may not exceed ten (10) pages excluding the title page, bibliography, and appendix. All necessary details to substantiate the main claims of the paper should be included either in the body of the paper or in the appendix after the bibliography. The bibliography and appendix do not count toward the page limit for regular papers. Looking at the appendix is at the discretion of the reviewers, so material required for making a decision on the submission should be included in the main body.
- The first page of a regular-paper submission is a designated title page and does not count toward the page limit. It must include the paper title, abstract, and an optional section titled “Self-Assessment of Relevance” (single-column, up to 20 lines, using the same template). This section acts as a “pre-rebuttal” to help reviewers understand the paper’s main contributions. It is particularly encouraged for topics that do not traditionally appear in SPAA, papers with mixed theoretical and practical contributions, or submissions that benefit from clarifying their key novelties relative to prior or concurrent work—especially details that do not directly fit into the main body of the paper.
- Brief announcements may not exceed three (3) pages including the title, abstract, main text, and bibliography. Unlike regular papers, brief announcements do not have a separate title page or appendix, and all material must fit within the three-page limit.
- Papers must be submitted for double-blind review. Blind reviewing of papers will be done by the program committee, assisted by outside referees. Authors should not provide their names or hints of identity in the submission. However, authors should not omit references to provide anonymity. Instead, if a paper is extending the authors’ previous work, it should reference and discuss the past work in third person.
- Submissions should have page numbers, and should be readable when printed on a black-and-white printer.
- Submissions must be in PDF format.

Double-Blind Policy
SPAA 2027 will employ a lightweight double-blind review process. This means that submissions must omit author names, affiliations, and contact information. In addition, any reference to prior work by the authors should be made in the third person. Any supplementary materials must also be anonymized. However, authors are free to disseminate their work through standard channels, such as posting preprints on arXiv or giving research talks. Reviewers will be instructed to refrain from actively searching for the authors’ identities.
Conflict of Interest Policy
To ensure a fair review process, all authors must disclose any conflicts of interest to PC members at submission. A conflict of interest includes:
- Academic advisor/advisee (no time limit)
- Postdoctoral mentor/mentee (3-year limit)
- Collaborators within the past 3 years (e.g., joint paper, project, or funding)
- Same institutional affiliation within the past 3 years
- Family member or close friend
- Anyone involved in an alleged harassment incident (even if not formally reported)
- Anyone whose relationship with an author could reasonably impair objective judgment
The program chair may request a ToC advocate to confidentially verify a claimed conflict. Falsely declared conflicts (i.e., those not covered by the above) risk rejection without review. Authors who believe they have a valid conflict not listed above, or are unsure, should contact the program chair.
Publication Date
The official publication date is the date the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of the conference. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work. (For those rare conferences whose proceedings are published in the ACM Digital Library after the conference is over, the official publication date remains the first day of the conference.)
